# Bookings

**Bookings** is the feed: every reservation across every channel, newest first, with the room,
the dates, the channel and the value.

## Opening a stay

Click any reservation for its full record:

- **The guest** — name, contact, and their history with you if they have stayed before.
- **The dates and room**, with the nights drawn against the calendar.
- **The money** — what the guest paid, what the channel keeps, and **what you are actually paid**.
  These three are stored as separate figures on purpose; a single "total" that sometimes means
  gross and sometimes payout is how a year of reporting goes wrong.
- **The channel and its reference**, for looking the same booking up in an extranet.
- **The history** — every change to the stay since it arrived.
- **The thread** — a link straight to the [conversation](/daily/messages/).

## Creating a booking by hand

For direct bookings taken over the phone, owner stays, or anything that did not come from a
channel: **create a reservation** here or from the [calendar](/daily/calendar/) by selecting the
nights.

A manual reservation closes those nights on every connected channel, exactly like one that arrived
from Airbnb.

:::note[Manual stays carry less context]
A booking entered by hand has no channel calendar behind it, so gap detection and upsell timing for
that stay are only as current as the last edit. It is a fine way to block nights; it is a weaker
input to the automatic parts of the product.

## Cancellations and changes

A cancellation on a channel arrives here within a minute, reopens the nights, and produces a
notification. A date change does the same. You do not need to touch the calendar afterwards.

## Guests

A **guest** is a person, not a booking. Open a guest to see every stay they have had with you,
their messages, their reviews, and a score summarising how they have been to host. Repeat guests
are recognised across channels where the channel gives us enough to match on.

Use it before replying to a complaint from someone on their fourth stay — the answer is usually

## Money definitions

| Word | Means |
| --- | --- |
| **Gross** | What the guest paid, including the channel's commission |
| **Room revenue** | The accommodation portion, excluding fees |
| **Payout / net** | What the channel pays you. This is what Santara means by **revenue** |
